February's Spirit Review

Medley Brothers Straight Bourbon

Robs Review:

Medley Brothers is a well-rounded flavorful bourbon that is delicious straight, and it stands up strong in a mixed cocktail as well.  This bourbon has a nice amber hue with a delightful nose of young grain, with slight notes of caramel and butterscotch.  On the first sip I get a sweet taste with hints of caramel and vanilla, some oak through the middle with a little leather on the finish.  The finish is a little quick with some alcohol burn; however, the fact that it is 102 proof could have something to do with that.  Overall, I find that Medley Brothers bourbon is quite nice and a great value buy at under $30.  I believe that a classic Old Fashioned is the perfect cocktail for this bourbon.

Classic Old Fashioned

1 Orange Slice

1 Maraschino Cherry

1 Sugar Cube

3 Dashes Orange Flavored Bitters

2 Oz Medley Brothers Bourbon

Splash of Soda Water

Utensils Needed

Highball Glass

Bar Spoon

Place the orange slice, de-stemmed maraschino cherry, and sugar cube in the bottom of the highball glass. Then add the three dashes of orange flavored bitters and muddle all the ingredients together until the sugar cube begins to dissolve and the cherry and orange are crushed.  Then add the bourbon and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.  Add ice to the glass and splash of soda water on top and enjoy.
